Community oF Faith

Sacred Heart Girls' College is a Christ-Centred community where the integration of faith with culture provides the foundation for living and learning.

We seek to ensure that our school lives as a community of faith within the Catholic tradition. We proclaim a vision for society where human life is sacred and the dignity of the human person is respected. We provide many opportunities for spiritual reflection and growth for both staff and students.

Sacred Heart Girls' College develops young women of faith who provide witness to the Good News in the way they interact with people on a daily basis. We aim to ensure that Christian values such as justice, compassion and service are inherent in the curriculum and pedagogy of our College. A comprehensive Social Justice Program is embedded in the culture and values of the school.

 At Sacred Heart we build on the charism, identity and life-giving service of the founders of our College, the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions. The Sisters reach out to the marginalised in countries such as Bangladesh, the Philippines, the Sudan and Vietnam, so that they may live life to the full.

In May, we gather as a school community to celebrate Mary’s Visitation to her cousin Elizabeth. This event inspired Euphrasie Barbier, the founder of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, in her ministry to women and children. Through education, Euphrasie Barbier wanted women to make a valuable contribution to society, declaring “Our students must become valuable women… not drawing room ornaments.”

In June, the College community gathers for Sacred Heart Day. Following the celebration of Eucharist, the high point of our life as a Christian community, our girls are encouraged to respond to Euphrasie Barbier’s call through our annual Walkathon. Funds which are raised are donated to the Sisters to enable them to continue to support those in need.
